Many children struggle in the early school years and parents are unsure what to do and where to turn. It is important that such children be evaluated early and an educational plan developed in order to ensure academic success. If these learning problems are not addressed in the primary school years this can lead to behaviour and/or emotional difficulties later on. Adolescents and adults need to develop a clear understanding of their strengths, weaknesses, interests, and learning needs in order to be successful academically and in making informed career decisions. Developing appropriate accommodations for students with learning disabilities and ADD/ADHD at the secondary and postsecondary level is crucial to their success. What happens after individuals leave school is equally important. Selecting the right career path involves the exploration of potential career options that match their aptitudes, interests, and personality. Individuals with disabilities should be aware of their right to accommodation in school and in the workplace. It is also important to develop strong self-advocacy skills. |
